Durham College introduces virtual AI training for non-technical professionals

Durham College announced on August 13, 2025, that it is offering new virtual executive development programs in artificial intelligence (AI) intended for non-technical professionals. According to Durham College, these programs are delivered by the college’s AI Hub in partnership with the Council of Canadian Innovators.

Durham College states that as AI becomes more prevalent in many sectors, non-technical professionals are increasingly required to make decisions about AI adoption and governance. The college reports that its virtual programs provide foundational knowledge on AI governance, regulatory frameworks, and the ethical and legal considerations surrounding AI for professionals in a variety of fields.

According to Durham College, the AI G.U.I.D.E. (Governance, Utilization, Innovation, Development & Ethics in AI) Program was co-developed with the Council of Canadian Innovators in 2024 and is entering its second cohort. The college reports that this six-week virtual course is scheduled to run from October 15 to November 19, with weekly live online sessions held Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. The program is intended for early- and mid-career professionals in non-technical roles such as HR, operations, sales, or public affairs, as well as technologists in fields like privacy and integrity. According to the college, individuals who complete the program receive a digital badge from Durham College and the Council of Canadian Innovators.

According to Durham College, a second offering, the AI G.U.I.D.E. Oil and Gas Program, has been developed for non-technical professionals in Canada’s energy sector. The college states that this program is delivered by the AI Hub in collaboration with Corporate Training Services and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Durham College reports that the course runs from September 30 to November 4 and is aimed at professionals working in operations, policy, compliance, or sustainability within the energy industry. The college notes that the curriculum includes sector-specific AI applications, risk evaluation, governance requirements, and case studies, and involves instruction from individuals with industry experience. Participants who complete the program earn a digital badge from Durham College, the AI Hub, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, according to the college.

Durham College also states that custom versions of the AI G.U.I.D.E. training framework can be created for organizations in regulated sectors, including healthcare, finance, energy, and education, through collaboration with industry and community associations and other institutions.
