Durham College lists scholarships, bursaries and a $5,000 tuition draw in Oct. 9 post
Durham College listed five financial-aid options for prospective students in a blog post dated Oct. 9, including the Schulich Builders Scholarship worth up to $40,000 for some skilled trades programs and a $5,000 tuition-credit draw tied to students planning to start in September 2027.
Several of the options include eligibility requirements that may matter to families in Clarington and across Durham Region, such as living in Durham Region, graduating from a Durham Region high school, or showing financial need.
The Schulich Builders Scholarship offers up to $40,000, with up to $20,000 available per academic year. The scholarship can be used for tuition, living expenses and tools. Durham College lists financial need, “work ethic and character,” and a willingness to serve as an ambassador for the skilled trades and the Schulich Builders program among the criteria.
The Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence Award covers first-semester tuition. Two awards are available each year to new students accepted into Durham College’s Firefighter – Pre-Service Education and Training program or the Fire Prevention and Technology program. The award is open to Durham Region residents who graduated from a Durham Region high school, with preference given to Whitby graduates. Applicants must self-identify as a racialized person or be economically challenged.
The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary provides funding toward tuition for a student’s chosen entry program and continued studies at Durham College for up to four years. Up to 10 students receive the bursary each year, and recipients participate in mentorship programs at the college.
Applicants must be full-time students entering their first post-secondary program, live in Durham Region, have graduated from a Durham Region high school within the last three years, demonstrate financial need and have “overcome obstacles and adversity.”
For students in the Horticulture Technician program or the Food and Farming program, the Barrett Centre Leader in Horticulture and Farming Scholarship provides two $2,500 awards. Durham College says selection criteria include leadership or “an entrepreneurial spirit” and community volunteer experience related to horticulture and urban farming.
Durham College also described a $5,000 tuition-credit draw for people planning to attend a program in September 2027, according to the post.
