Durham College Opens Registration for Online Mental Health Certificate for Healthcare Workers

Registration for Durham College’s new Mental Health for Healthcare Workers Certificate is now open for the Fall 2025 term, according to Durham College. The program is offered fully online and is aimed at healthcare and community service professionals working to support mental well-being in various settings.

Durham College stated that the certificate was created to address a growing demand for skills in mental health care among professionals. According to the college, the program is intended for Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Personal Support Workers, Social Workers, Paramedics, and other social service professionals.

Nora Simpson, Executive Dean of Professional and Part-time Learning at Durham College, said the program provides practical, in-depth learning on mental health conditions, treatment approaches, and therapeutic strategies. Course topics include mental health disorders, psychopharmacology, and trauma-informed care, according to Simpson.

According to Durham College, the six-course program was developed in collaboration with Humber Polytechnic. Courses are delivered online and asynchronously, as stated by the college. The program is aligned with the Canadian Nurses Association’s Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing competencies and, according to Durham College, may assist nurses preparing for certification in this field.

Durham College also reported that tuition for the program is fully funded through The Barrett Family Foundation. Students are responsible only for a non-refundable registration fee of $30 plus HST per course, according to the college.
