Durham College student wins $5,000 tuition credit through campus-event draw

First-year Finance – Business Administration student Taylor Bacon received a $5,000 tuition credit through Durham College’s annual campus-events registration contest, the college announced Oct. 30.

The contest is open to all applicants who register for campus events such as Open House and Program Information Nights. The award is issued as a $5,000 credit toward tuition fees for the recipient.

Bacon said she learned of the award while in class. “I was absolutely thrilled and excited, and honestly I didn’t think it was real,” she said.

“Winning this tuition award means a lot to me, because growing up, money was something my family struggled with,” Bacon said. “I come from a single parent household, and I have always watched my mom work a crazy amount to provide for me and my siblings.”

After graduating from high school earlier this year, Bacon had considered taking a year to work and save money before starting college. She decided not to delay and said the tuition credit gives her a head start on paying fees. “I’m very thankful and extremely happy. This money helps me in so many ways.”

“Support like this not only eases financial pressure but also shows our belief in their potential,” Durham College President Dr. Elaine Popp said.

The prize is part of an annual draw tied to registration for campus events. No additional details about entry numbers or selection methods were provided in the post.
