Durham opens At Home Incentive Program applications with $8 million available; deadline April 2
The Region of Durham is accepting applications for its At Home Incentive Program (AHIP), with $8 million available this year to support affordable rental housing projects, according to a regional announcement issued in Whitby. The application deadline is April 2 at 11:59 p.m.
For residents in Durham Region, including Clarington, the program is one of the ways the region funds new or expanded affordable rental housing. Durham says projects must include a minimum number of affordable units to qualify.
According to the Region of Durham, AHIP offers regional capital funding and application support for eligible affordable rental housing projects. The region says private- and public-sector partners can apply.
To be eligible, the region says projects must provide a minimum of five affordable housing units.
The region says eligible projects can include new construction and converting a non-residential building into purpose-built rental housing.
Projects may also include adding a new affordable building to an existing site or adding new units to an existing building, according to the announcement.
The region also lists redeveloping community housing to add affordable housing units as an eligible project type.
This is the fourth call for applications under the program, the region said.
In the first three years of AHIP, Regional Council approved $30.5 million in funding to help create 350 new affordable rental units in Ajax, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby, according to the Region of Durham.
