Durham Region activates protected left-turn signal at Highway 2 and Courtice Road
Durham Region has installed a new protected left-turn signal for eastbound drivers at the intersection of Regional Highway 2 and Courtice Road in Courtice. The region says the signal was installed April 30 and is now operating.
The change affects motorists turning left from Regional Highway 2 eastbound onto Courtice Road, a busy movement at the intersection.
Durham Region said it added the fully protected left-turn phase to improve safety for eastbound left turns onto Courtice Road.
The new setup includes a dedicated green left-turn arrow for vehicles in the eastbound left-turn lane. Durham Region said the signal indications for this movement are intended to have drivers turn left only when the green left-turn arrow is visible.
The installation is part of Durham Vision Zero. Durham Region describes Vision Zero as a long-term plan for a safer transportation system with the goal of seeing no lives lost or serious injuries on Durham roadways.
