Durham Region Chair Issues Statement on Passing of Hilary Weston

John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for the Regional Municipality of Durham, issued a statement on August 7 expressing condolences on the passing of Ontario’s 26th Lieutenant Governor, Hilary Weston. Henry said his thoughts are with her family during this time.

Henry’s statement highlighted several of Weston’s accomplishments, noting her philanthropic work, including the establishment of the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Awards, the donation of her salary to the Hilary M. Weston Foundation for Youth, and her appointment to the Order of Canada. Henry said Weston supported causes related to women, volunteerism, and youth.

According to Henry’s statement, flags at Durham Regional Headquarters have been lowered to half-mast in Weston’s memory and will remain lowered until sunset on the day of her burial.
