Durham Region issues International Women’s Day statement attributed to Chair John Henry

The Regional Municipality of Durham issued a statement in Whitby on March 8 marking International Women’s Day, attributed to Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer John Henry.

For local residents, the statement is a public message of recognition tied to International Women’s Day. It did not outline any new regional initiatives, service changes, or program details.

In the statement, Henry described International Women’s Day as “a global tradition now 115 years strong” and said it recognizes the “leadership, creativity and innovation of women and girls.”

Henry also said women across Durham Region contribute in “their homes, workplaces, businesses, community organizations and local government.”

The statement includes broader comments about supporting girls and women in the community and notes, “While progress has been made, we know there’s more work ahead,” adding that “support, opportunity and well‑being remain essential for women and girls to thrive,” according to the statement issued by the region.
