Durham Region Launches Initiative to Strengthen Local Music Industry
Durham Region is focusing on enhancing its local music industry through the 'Beyond the Music' series and an industry analysis study titled the Durham Region Music Industry Analysis. This initiative, launched by Invest Durham in late 2024, involved local musicians and industry stakeholders, aiming to promote growth in the music sector.
The study was supported by Nordicity, a consulting firm, which contributed to analyzing and providing insights about the music industry's current state and its potential economic impact. According to public records, the local music industry supports approximately $50 million in GDP and over 650 full-time jobs.
Key officials involved include John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO, and Simon Gill, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, as well as Eileen Kennedy from Nordicity. The initiative seeks to leverage these insights to support sustainable growth and development within Durham's music scene. Upcoming events in the 'Beyond the Music' series intend to engage the community further by showcasing local talent and highlighting opportunities for industry development.
