Durham Region Lifts Mandatory Water Restrictions for North Communities

The Regional Municipality of Durham has ended mandatory water restrictions for residents and businesses in Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock, and Greenbank, effective August 23, 2025, according to an official announcement.

The change follows a period in which the region experienced extreme heat and a lack of rain, conditions cited as the basis for the now-lifted restrictions. This update affects household and commercial water use across the listed communities.

A seasonal “odd-even lawn day watering” rule remains in effect for these communities from May to September, as mandated by Regional Water Supply By-law #85-2003. The Regional Municipality of Durham reported that while restrictions were active, some water systems in the affected areas averaged 10 to 15 per cent lower daily water use based on regional data.
