Durham Region opens 60-day review of sewage servicing plan for Port Perry Employment Area

Share

Durham Region has opened a 60-day public review of a Public File Report (PFR) on sanitary sewage servicing for the Port Perry Employment Area in the Township of Scugog, following a Schedule B Class Environmental Assessment. The review period runs from April 30 to June 29, 2026.

The PFR describes recommended sewage infrastructure that would serve the employment area and connect to the Nonquon Water Pollution Control Plant. The report is posted online at durham.ca/PortPerryEmploymentLandsSSPS.

According to Durham Region, the recommended option includes constructing a new sanitary sewage pumping station for the employment area at one of two possible sites: the northwest corner of 1520 Reach Street, or immediately west of 181 North Port Road. The final location will be confirmed during detailed design.

The recommendations also include installing a new forcemain along Reach Street and installing a dual forcemain system connecting to the Nonquon Water Pollution Control Plant.

For the eastern portion of the employment lands, the PFR recommends providing drainage to the existing Reach Street sanitary sewage pumping station and upgrading that station.

The report also recommends rerouting the Reach Street pumping station forcemain so it connects to the new dual forcemain system.

Durham Region said it has completed the Schedule B Class Environmental Assessment and prepared the PFR as part of that process.
