Durham Region Recommends Roundabout and New Bridge for Taunton Road and Bowmanville Avenue
The Region of Durham has completed a Class Environmental Assessment study for the intersection of Taunton Road (Regional Road 4) and Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) in Clarington, including the bridge immediately west of the intersection. The study followed the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process for Schedule 'C' projects, according to the Region.
This project is of interest to residents in Clarington as it concerns significant changes to a major roadway and associated infrastructure. The recommendations may affect traffic patterns, local access, and future road usage in the area.
Based on an evaluation of planning and design alternatives, and with consideration of public and agency input, the Region of Durham has recommended the installation of a roundabout at the intersection and the replacement of the existing bridge with a four-lane structure.
The Region’s timeline shows that public notices and study updates for this project have been available since September 2017. Technical documents produced during the assessment include environmental reports, design alternatives, summaries of public and agency comments, and assessments related to the bridge and surrounding area. These documents are available through the Region's Public Works Projects portal online.
