Durham Region reminds drivers speed limits drop and fines double when workers are present in construction zones
Drivers using Durham Region roads are being reminded to slow down and proceed with caution in construction zones or where road workers are present, and that speed limits are reduced in construction areas and fines are doubled when workers are on site, the Region said.
The reminder comes as construction activity increases with warmer weather. Durham Region said the message is intended to help protect road workers and other road users, including drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
In its notice, the Region did not specify which offences carry doubled fines, but said the doubling applies when workers are present.
Durham Region said residents can find information about current and upcoming construction projects on Regional roads at durham.ca/WorksProjects and on its Traffic Watch Map at durham.ca/TrafficWatch.
The Region’s notice also directs residents to durham.ca/VisionZero for more information about its road-safety program.
