Durham Region Renames Children’s Services Division to Child Care and Early Years Division

The Region of Durham has announced that its Children’s Services Division has been renamed the Child Care and Early Years Division. The division manages child care and early years programs across Durham Region and is responsible for implementing the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system.

According to the Region, the name change is meant to better reflect the services and supports offered in the community. This update affects families and caregivers who access child care and early years programs in the area.

The Region lists the division’s current priorities as supporting expansion and access to child care, enhancing supportive and inclusive child care, increasing, attracting, and retaining Registered Early Childhood Educators, and optimizing virtual service delivery and technology.

Julie Gaskin, Director of Children’s Services, stated, “We’re proud to announce our new name: the ‘Child Care and Early Years Division.’ This change reflects our deep commitment to managing a co-ordinated and responsive early learning and child care system that supports Durham Region children and families in reaching their best potential.”

The division continues to oversee local and government-led child care and early years programs throughout Durham Region, including the CWELCC system.
