Durham Region Schedules Curbside Giveaway Day for September 13
Curbside Giveaway Day will take place across Durham Region on Saturday, September 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the Region of Durham. Residents can take part by placing unwanted items that are still in good condition at the curb with a “Free” sign displayed.
The Region advises that the event offers a way for residents to reduce waste by giving away items instead of disposing of them. Any items that are not claimed by the end of the day should be brought back inside. The Region notes that unclaimed items can also be donated to charity, local thrift shops, or listed on free classified sites including Kijiji, VarageSale, or Facebook Marketplace.
According to the Region, material left at the curb after the event may be subject to by-law enforcement. For safety, baby items such as car seats and cribs should not be placed at the curb. The Region recommends that only items marked “Free” be taken and suggests speaking to the owner if an item is not clearly marked.
Participants are reminded to follow all traffic laws, watch for children, avoid blocking sidewalks or driveways, not to trespass on private property, and not to park illegally. The Region recommends cleaning and disinfecting items before setting them out and laundering any clothing or fabric items prior to the event. Clothing acquired from the curb should also be laundered before use.
