Durham Region Schedules Environment Days for August and September 2025

Environment Days are scheduled for August 16 at the Clarington Operations Depot in Bowmanville, September 6 at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex parking lot in Pickering, and September 20 at the Uxbridge Seniors Centre parking lot, according to the Region of Durham. The Region states that each event will run from 8 a.m. to noon, regardless of weather conditions.

The Region reports that residents can bring items for reuse, recycling, and safe disposal to these events. This information is relevant to local residents who are looking for specific opportunities to manage unwanted household materials responsibly and in accordance with regional guidelines.

The Region advises that accepted donations for reuse include clean, dry, and odourless clothing, textiles, shoes, bedding, small household items, and sporting goods in working condition. If materials are not accepted by charities at the event, residents are required to remove them and may dispose of them at a regional waste management facility, where standard fees may apply.

According to the Region, electronic waste such as cell phones, audio and video players, VCRs, DVD and Blu-Ray players, stereos, computers, televisions, cameras, and radios will be collected at Environment Days. The Region recommends that residents erase all personal information from hard drives and SIM cards before dropping off electronics.

Household hazardous waste (HHW) is also being accepted at these events, as stated by the Region. Items classified as HHW include antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, motor oil and filters, fluorescent light bulbs and tubes, cooking oil, medication, and mercury thermostats. The Region specifies that no commercial, institutional, agricultural, or industrial waste will be accepted.

The Region requests that those attending consider bringing a non-perishable food item in good condition, to be donated to a local food bank. More details, including a comprehensive list of accepted materials and tips for preparing for these events, are available from the Region at durham.ca/WasteEvents.
