Durham Region seeks youth artwork for water report covers; entries due Feb. 15

The Regional Municipality of Durham is accepting drawings and paintings from Durham residents aged 18 and under for its annual Water Report Cover Drawing Challenge, with two submissions to be used as cover artwork for two upcoming Regional water reports. Completed artwork must be submitted by email by Sunday, Feb. 15 to WaterChallenge@durham.ca.

The contest is aimed at youth across Durham Region, including Clarington, and asks participants to show how they help conserve and protect water in everyday life.

According to Durham Region, entries should depict actions that conserve and protect water. Examples listed by the Region include saving water at home or at school, protecting rivers, lakes and groundwater, and teaching others why water is important.

Full challenge details and rules are posted at durham.ca/WaterChallenge.

The Region said its Works Department treats and distributes drinking water across Durham, and that protecting the surface water and groundwater that supply municipal drinking water systems is part of that work.

“Water protection starts with everyday actions,” said Mike Hubble, Director of Environmental Services for The Regional Municipality of Durham, in the announcement.
