Durham Region Sets Curbside Giveaway Day for June 14, 2025

Durham Region has scheduled Curbside Giveaway Day for Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to a recent announcement. Residents may place unwanted household items in good condition at the curb, clearly marked as “Free,” for others to take.

Durham Region states this event is intended to reduce the amount of garbage sent for disposal by encouraging the exchange of usable goods. The Region encourages participation by residents who have items that may still be useful for others.

According to the Region, all giveaway items must be marked with a “Free” sign and placed at the curb. Residents are instructed to return unclaimed items to their homes by 7 p.m. Items left at the curb after this time will be subject to by-law enforcement. The Region also suggests donating items to charity, local thrift shops, or posting them on free classifieds websites if residents do not wish to leave them at the curb.

Durham Region advises that only items clearly marked as "Free" should be taken from the curb. If items are not marked, the Region suggests checking with the property owner before taking them. Baby items, such as car seats and cribs, should not be placed at the curb for safety reasons.

Participants are reminded by the Region to obey all traffic laws, watch for children, and avoid blocking traffic or sidewalks. The Region instructs residents not to trespass on private property or park illegally during the event.

The Region also recommends cleaning and disinfecting items, and laundering clothing or other fabric items before giving them away. Laundering items acquired at the event is also recommended.
