Durham Region sets March 24 public meeting on proposed Ajax water plant expansion
Durham Region will hold a public information centre on Tuesday, March 24, about a proposed expansion of the Ajax Water Supply Plant in Ajax. The drop-in session runs from 6 to 8 p.m., with a project team presentation scheduled for 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., at the Ajax Public Library’s Rotary Room, 55 Harwood Avenue South.
The meeting is part of a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) addendum process for the project. Durham Region cites projected population growth to 2051 and increased water demand as the reason for proposing the plant expansion.
Durham Region says the Class EA addendum will consider and evaluate alternatives for expanding the existing Ajax water supply plant.
The public information centre is planned as an open house, with display materials available and staff on hand to answer questions. Planned topics include the project scope, the Class EA addendum process, existing site conditions, findings to date and next steps.
The Region also notes that the outlined study area shown in project materials covers where studies have been done or may be needed, and does not indicate the eventual size of any plant expansion.
