Durham Region to accept Building Safer Communities grant applications March 20 to April 30

Durham Region is set to accept applications from March 20 to April 30 for its Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Fund: Building Safer Communities Grant Program, offered in partnership with Public Safety Canada, according to a regional announcement issued in Whitby.

The program provides grant funding for initiatives in Durham Region communities that address youth justice involvement and youth violence, including gun and gang violence, the region said.

Durham Region said funded projects are intended to support vulnerable and at-risk children and youth and steer them away from gun and gang violence.

Applications are expected to use trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches, the region said.

The fund is for local projects that address risk factors associated with gun and gang violence by addressing underlying social conditions linked to crime, according to the announcement.

Not-for-profit organizations and other community partners are eligible to apply, Durham Region said.
