Durham Region Transit to End Bus Service Early on June 6 Ahead of Possible Strike
Durham Region Transit (DRT) will end all scheduled bus service by 11 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, due to the possibility of a strike by Unifor Local 222, which represents DRT's frontline employees.
The early end of service will affect all scheduled DRT bus routes across Durham Region. According to DRT, this measure is intended to allow for safe preparation for a potential work disruption beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.
DRT reports that Unifor Local 222 will be in a legal strike position starting June 7. DRT has indicated that if no strike occurs, regular bus service is expected to resume on Saturday, June 7. The transit agency advises customers to check the detailed listing of last trips at DurhamRegionTransit.com/updates and make alternative transportation arrangements if necessary.
According to DRT, collective bargaining with Unifor Local 222 has been ongoing since March 31, 2025, without a new collective agreement being reached. DRT states it will provide updates for customers as information becomes available. More information and answers to frequently asked questions can be found at DurhamRegionTransit.com/updates.
