Durham Regional Police Hold 16th Annual Junior YIP Leadership Camp
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) held the 16th annual Junior Youth in Policing (YIP) Leadership Camp in Durham Region from August 5 to 7, according to an official announcement. The program was offered at no cost for youth aged 10 to 13, with 100 participants attending the three-day event.
The camp is held each summer by DRPS for local youth to experience a variety of activities. This information may be valuable to families seeking summer programming and opportunities for youth engagement in the Durham Region.
Activities over the three days included icebreakers, custom shirt decorating, interactive activity rotations, and a visit from the DRPS Canine Unit on the first day. The second day involved a scavenger hunt and a mock crime scene investigation with the DRPS Forensics Unit. On the third day, campers attended presentations by Earth Rangers, the DRPS Tactical Support Unit, and the DRPS Internet Child Exploitation Unit. The camp concluded with a graduation ceremony at which certificates were awarded.
According to DRPS, the camp was supported by officers, organizers, volunteers, and the families of participants.
