E-bike Rider Seriously Injured in Oshawa; Local Man Charged After Collision
A male e-bike rider was seriously injured after a collision with a van at the intersection of Sommerville Street and Taunton Road West in Oshawa on Sunday, August 3, 2025, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).
Police have charged a local resident in connection with the collision and continue to seek additional information from the public.
DRPS stated that officers from Central East Division responded to reports of the collision at approximately 10:00 p.m. They reported that the e-bike was travelling northbound on Sommerville Street when it was struck by a van heading east on Taunton Road West. The van then left the scene, continuing eastbound on Taunton Road West.
The e-bike rider was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries, according to police. Officers later located the van driver at a residence in Oshawa and arrested the individual without incident.
Police identified the accused as Tyler Donovan, 30, of Oshawa. Donovan is charged with multiple offences, including failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, and careless driving causing bodily harm. Police also stated Donovan is charged with driving under suspension with a Criminal Code prohibition. DRPS noted that these allegations have not been proven in court.
