Emancipation Day Event Returns to Pickering on July 30
The Region of Durham and its community partners plan to hold a free Emancipation Day event at Esplanade Park in Pickering on July 30, 2025. The event is scheduled to take place from 4 to 8 p.m., with the theme “Rooted in Resilience: Embracing Empowerment,” according to the Region.
The event is part of the Region’s acknowledgment of Emancipation Day, which is observed on August 1. The Region of Durham has stated that its decision to hold the celebration is in response to ongoing acts of anti-Black racism in Durham Region. The Region also states it is committed to promoting safety, inclusivity, and respect through events such as this.
Planned activities at Esplanade Park include live performances, food trucks, vendors, and activities for children and youth, as outlined by the Region. More information and event details are available at durham.ca/EmancipationDay.
