Firearms and Drugs Seized During Whitby Traffic Stop, Five Arrested

Police seized two loaded firearms, ammunition, drugs, and cash during a traffic stop on Thickson Road South near Consumers Drive in Whitby at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

The stop resulted in the arrest of five individuals who now face multiple firearm and drug-related charges. All five were held for bail hearings.

DRPS reported that officers from Central West Division were conducting proactive patrols in the area when they encountered a suspicious vehicle and carried out a traffic stop. While interacting with the occupants, police detected an odour of cannabis, which led to a search of the vehicle and its occupants. The search resulted in the seizure of two loaded firearms, ammunition, a quantity of cash, and drugs.

The two adult suspects identified by DRPS are Braydon Christopher Joshua Dacon, 18, of Oshawa, and Jahquille Justice Walters, 18, of Pickering. Both are charged with possession of loaded prohibited firearms, possession of prohibited weapons knowing possession is unauthorized, possession of firearms with altered serial numbers, unauthorized possession of firearms in a motor vehicle, and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Three 17-year-old males—two from Pickering and one from Oshawa—are also charged with the same offences. The 17-year-old from Oshawa faces an additional charge of failing to comply with an undertaking. Names of the youths have not been released.

DRPS stated that all allegations contained in the media release have not been proven in court.
