Five Brands of Pistachio & Knafeh Milk Chocolate Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on August 14, 2025, a recall of five brands of Pistachio & Knafeh Milk Chocolate due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall applies to products sold online and in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec.

The recall may affect residents who have purchased any of these chocolates, as Salmonella contamination can pose serious health risks. According to the CFIA, young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe infections. Symptoms in healthy people can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications can include severe arthritis.

The CFIA states that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick. The recall was triggered by test results gathered during an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating a related outbreak of human illness.

According to the CFIA, the products included in the recall are:

  • Chocofolie: “Chocolat Dubaï - chocolat au lait kunafa & pistache,” 145 g, all codes from 225097 up to and including 225184
  • Chocolato: “Chocolat Dubaï - chocolat au lait kunafa & pistache,” 145 g, all codes from 225093 up to and including 225132

The CFIA says recalled products should not be consumed, sold, served, or distributed. They advise that recalled chocolates should be thrown out or returned to where they were purchased. The agency says it is verifying the removal of affected products from the marketplace and that additional recalls may follow if more products are identified.
