Five Buildings on Simcoe Street South in Oshawa Scheduled for Demolition for GO Rail Extension

Metrolinx has announced that five properties will be demolished along Simcoe Street South in Oshawa between August 18 and December 24, 2025, as part of the Bowmanville Extension to the Lakeshore East GO rail line. Delsan AIM Environmental Services will be responsible for the demolition and removal activities at these locations, according to Metrolinx.

The affected properties are a two-storey building at 399 Simcoe St S, Tim Hortons at 415 Simcoe St S, All Canadian Awards at 424 Simcoe St S, Pets Kingdom at 426 Simcoe St S, and a two-storey multiplex at 428 Simcoe St S. Work is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Metrolinx states that working hours may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Metrolinx advises that area residents should expect noise and vibrations during the demolition work. Site lighting may be used if needed and will be positioned away from nearby homes. The agency also notes that temporary fencing will be installed once demolition is complete and that safety signage will be in place throughout the operation.

According to Metrolinx, sidewalk closures will take place during facade demolition, with pedestrian traffic rerouted onto the curb lane. Metrolinx says that Traffic Control Persons will be present during sidewalk closures to assist pedestrians. Short-term lane closures may occur as necessary for construction activities, but Metrolinx reports there are no anticipated full road closures and transit services are not expected to be impacted.

Metrolinx adds that restoration of all affected areas will be undertaken after demolition is complete. Precautionary measures are planned to minimize disruptions, including reduced idling of equipment and the use of white noise backup alarms on machinery, according to the agency.
