Four Men Charged After Firearm and Drugs Seized During Oshawa Traffic Stop
Four men were arrested and charged with multiple firearm and drug-related offences during a traffic stop in Oshawa on August 21, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).
Police stated that officers from Central East Division stopped a vehicle at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the area of Albany Street and Simcoe Street South, Oshawa. Officers reported that they detected a strong odour of cannabis from the vehicle and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of a loaded firearm. Four male suspects were arrested at the scene without incident.
DRPS identified the accused as Edward Brannan, 42, of Oshawa; Malik Diaby, 23, of Whitby; Geethan Thiruvarulselvan, 20, of Ajax; and Cyeth Allen, 21, of no fixed address. According to police, charges against the four include unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, careless storage of a firearm, contravention of storage regulations, and multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Additional charges for some of the accused include possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm without a licence, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
All four suspects were held for a bail hearing, according to DRPS. Police noted that the allegations have not been proven in court.
