Grounded Community Hub among eight recognized at Durham Accessibility Awards

In late September in Whitby, the Durham Region Accessibility Advisory Committee hosted its 21st annual Accessibility Awards, recognizing eight recipients across the region, including Clarington’s Grounded Community Hub.

The awards recognize efforts to identify, remove, and prevent barriers for people living with disabilities. Local municipal Accessibility Advisory Committees nominate individuals, businesses, and organizations each year. For the first time, community members were invited to submit nominations and attend the event.

Recipients receive the Region’s Accessibility Award. This year’s honourees represent communities across Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog, Brock, and Uxbridge.

This year’s recipients are:

  • The Barrett Centre of Innovation in Sustainable Urban Agriculture, Town of Ajax
