Habibi Brand Pistachio Kernels Recalled in Quebec Due to Salmonella Risk

A recall has been issued for Habibi brand pistachio kernels sold in Quebec due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to a notice published by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on August 22, 2025. The recalled product is distributed in 10 kg packages, with the UPC 70847446000626 and lot number 344.24IR41 (best before January 2027).

The CFIA stated the recall is related to an ongoing national investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The agency's findings during this investigation prompted the recall. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating an outbreak of human illness connected to this case.

The CFIA advises that recalled products should not be consumed, served, used, sold, or distributed. Contaminated pistachio kernels may not appear or smell spoiled, but can cause illness. Symptoms of Salmonella infection may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Some groups, including young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, may be at greater risk of severe or even fatal infections. Long-term complications could include severe arthritis.

The CFIA’s investigation may result in the recall of additional products. The agency is working to ensure that the recalled pistachio kernels are removed from the marketplace.

This recall is classified as a Class 2 food recall warning, indicating that exposure to the product could cause temporary adverse health consequences.

The recalling firm for this product is Green Farm Pistachio Inc., and the warning was published by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
