HMCS William Hall Scheduled to Join Operation CARIBBE from Halifax on May 14

His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) William Hall is set to leave Halifax, Nova Scotia, on May 14, 2025, to take part in Operation CARIBBE, according to National Defence. The operation is Canada’s contribution to counter-narcotics activities led by the United States under the Joint Interagency Task Force South in the Caribbean region.

Operation CARIBBE is focused on detecting and interdicting illicit drug trafficking in the Caribbean, with the Canadian Armed Forces providing naval and air capabilities, National Defence stated. Canadian involvement in Operation CARIBBE has taken place since 2006, according to National Defence.

National Defence reported that the deployment of HMCS William Hall follows a March 1, 2025, operation in which HMCS Harry DeWolf assisted the United States Coast Guard in seizing 750 kilograms of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea. The same report indicated that Colombian air and maritime assets supported this effort.

HMCS William Hall is identified by National Defence as a Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessel, designed for missions such as surveillance and interdiction operations.

Rear-Admiral Josée Kurtz, Commander Maritime Forces Atlantic and Joint Task Force Atlantic, said in a statement, “The deployment of HMCS William Hall to Operation CARIBBE demonstrates Canada’s unwavering commitment to international security and our dedication to combating illicit trafficking in the Caribbean.” Commander Scott Kelemen, Commanding Officer of HMCS William Hall, stated, “His Majesty’s Canadian Ship William Hall and its crew are prepared to support our international partners in disrupting the flow of illicit drugs and enhancing security in the region.”
