Hundreds Attend Community Safety Day in Clarington, Emergency Vehicles on Display
Hundreds of residents attended East Division’s Community Safety Day on June 11 in Clarington, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS). The event featured displays and tours of vehicles from local emergency services, as reported by DRPS.
The event brought together several organizations that serve the Clarington area. It presented an opportunity for residents to see emergency response equipment and meet local service providers, according to DRPS.
Attendees could tour vehicles from DRPS units, such as Forensic Identification and a newly acquired light armoured vehicle, as well as various fire trucks and emergency service vehicles. DRPS reported that the Touch-A-Truck area included displays such as a 50-ton crane from J. Noble Crane, a pink cement truck from St. Marys Cement, and a military tank from the Canadian Tank Museum. Other displays listed by DRPS included a go-kart from Mosport Karting, a car carrier from CCT Auto Trans, an 80-foot car carrier, a rock crawler, and an Olympia Zamboni and maintenance trucks from the Municipality of Clarington. A fire extrication demonstration was conducted by Clarington Fire Services using a vehicle provided by Alpine Towing & Storage.
Collaboration for the event included Clarington Fire Services, the Municipality of Clarington, and the Region of Durham Paramedic Services, according to DRPS. Community partners named by DRPS included Clarington Parks & Rec, Libraries & Museums, Clarington Youth Centres, Region of Durham Older Adult Safety, Brain Injury Association of Durham, Clarington Active Transportation & Safe Roads Advisory Council, Community Development Council Durham, Brimacombe, and the Alzheimer’s Society of Durham.
Non-perishable food donations were collected during the event, according to DRPS. Event sponsors identified by DRPS were Ontario Power Generation, Boston Pizza, and Vissers Sod Farm. DRPS stated that Boston Pizza provided food for event volunteers.
DRPS said that information about upcoming Community Safety Days for other police divisions will be provided as it becomes available.
