Interim Helipad Opens in Bowmanville to Support Hospital Redevelopment

Lakeridge Health has announced the opening of an interim helipad at 1150 Haines Street in Bowmanville, which is located less than five minutes from the Bowmanville Hospital. This site will facilitate emergency air transportation for critically ill patients until a permanent rooftop helipad is constructed as part of the hospital's redevelopment plan.

The previous helipad at Bowmanville Hospital was closed in 2018 due to safety concerns. In collaboration with Ornge and various municipal, regional, provincial, and federal partners, Lakeridge Health secured the new location and funding for the interim helipad. The site underwent comprehensive feasibility assessments and passed safety tests, leading to its certification by Transport Canada.

The interim helipad is part of a broader redevelopment initiative for Bowmanville Hospital, which aims to expand critical care services and double the hospital's size. Recently, a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was issued to identify project teams for the design, construction, and financing of the redevelopment project.

Lakeridge Health plans to hold a community event to share more details about this development in the future.
