Investigation Continues into Downtown Bowmanville Fire Incident

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is actively investigating the recent fire incident in downtown Bowmanville. The investigation, which is guided by the need for precise excavation techniques, is projected to continue throughout this week. These methods include potentially removing parts of building facades to assist in the assessment efforts.

Municipal authorities have stated that this fire investigation will allow for the necessary evaluation of structural integrity in affected areas. Precautionary measures and access restrictions are in place to support these activities.

Currently, one individual remains missing in connection with the fire. Local law enforcement maintains a presence to provide aid in the excavation efforts. To support affected residents, temporary accommodations and support services have been arranged by the Region of Durham and local charities, including the Salvation Army Bowmanville.

Traffic in downtown Bowmanville has been affected, with sections of King Street West closed to vehicles, although pedestrian access remains via the north sidewalk. The community is encouraged to use alternative routes such as Liberty Street and Temperance Street to minimize local congestion.
