Kingston Road BRT Construction in Ajax Scheduled to Start August 2025

Construction of the Kingston Road median Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on Kingston Road (Highway 2) in Ajax will begin in August 2025, according to a public notice from the Regional Municipality of Durham. The project runs from about 300 metres west of Harwood Avenue to Galea Drive and is expected to finish by early summer 2027.

The Regional Municipality of Durham has outlined several upgrades as part of this project. The plans include reconstructing the existing pavement and building designated median BRT lanes, as well as installing off-road asphalt cycle tracks in the boulevards and constructing four median bus stop platforms with shelters.

According to the notice, additional work will include modifications to current traffic signals and crosswalks to improve accessibility. The project also covers improvements to roadway and boulevard lighting, and the installation of new watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure along the corridor.

The Regional Municipality stated that updates about construction progress and project details will be posted on its website. Public information centres are also scheduled during the construction period to provide further information to residents. The municipality reports that the project is partially funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).
