Lakeridge Gardens dialysis unit marks three years; up to 54 patients weekly, Lakeridge Health says

Lakeridge Health said in a Sept. 5, 2025 post on its website that the Lakeridge Gardens dialysis unit, which opened in 2022 in West Durham, has reached its third year of operation. The organization said the unit runs six days a week and can provide hemodialysis to up to 54 patients each week, serving residents of Ajax and across Durham Region.

According to Lakeridge Health, the unit is part of its Regional Nephrology Program, which coordinates hemodialysis services across its sites. The hospital said the opening of the Lakeridge Gardens unit supported its initiative to provide treatment closer to where patients live. Lakeridge Health reported that 95% of patients receiving hemodialysis at a Lakeridge Health site are treated at the location closest to their home.

The organization said the unit is operating at full capacity. In a patient account included in the post, Donald Frost said, “It was a shock to learn that my kidneys failed. Moving to Lakeridge Gardens has worked out for me—I really enjoy it. The staff treat me well, and now I don’t have to face traffic to get to my treatment.”

Another person quoted in the post, Midori, whose mother, Taeko, helped open the unit, said: “We’re within walking distance. I can push her wheelchair there myself.”

The hospital’s update did not announce changes to service hours or eligibility criteria beyond the schedule and capacity noted above. The post did not outline any expansion plans or additional program details.
