Lakeridge Health starts next phase of energy upgrades at Ajax Pickering and Oshawa hospitals
On Dec. 19, 2025, Lakeridge Health launched the next phase of infrastructure and energy upgrades at Ajax Pickering Hospital and Oshawa Hospital, a project expected to cut utility use by about one-third and modernize critical building systems at both sites in Durham Region.
The work involves Lakeridge Health partnering with Enbridge Sustain, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and Blackstone Energy Services. The upgrades are expected to exceed the organization’s 2030 greenhouse-gas reduction targets and are being delivered through a turnkey utility services program funded through operational savings, with no upfront capital from Lakeridge Health.
Enbridge Sustain said the improvements are expected to lower energy use, help Lakeridge Health avoid capital costs and maintain predictable monthly expenses.
Lakeridge Health operates five hospitals and more than 30 community-based locations in Durham Region.
The announcement did not include the cost of the upgrades or a project timeline.
