Lakeshore Road closing Sept. 21–26 between Morgans and Newtonville for rail crossing work

The Municipality of Clarington says Lakeshore Road will be closed between Morgans Road and Newtonville Road from Sunday, September 21 at 6 a.m. to Friday, September 26 at 6 p.m. for rail crossing restoration, with soft closures at both intersections and a hard closure at the railway crossing.

According to the municipal notice, the closure will block travel at the crossing and limit access within the zone. The municipality said the timeline is approximate and advised road users to use alternative local roads during the work.

In its online advisory, Clarington explained that a hard road closure blocks the entire road, preventing motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles from passing. A soft road closure allows local traffic to reach homes, businesses, or properties up to the point of the hard closure.

Soft closures are planned at Lakeshore Road and Morgans Road and at Lakeshore Road and Newtonville Road, with the hard closure located at the railway crossing, the notice said.

The municipality posted a map of the closure area and directed drivers to use nearby local routes. The advisory did not list a specific detour.

The municipality also stated that emergency vehicles cannot pass the hard closure and that soft closures are intended for local access only.

The closure applies to Lakeshore Road only within the limits described; local traffic may travel inside the closed segment until reaching the barrier at the crossing. The advisory asked readers to consult the posted map for the exact limits of the work area.

This means travel through the crossing will not be possible by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot during the closure period, according to the notice.
