Lars Brand Dining Furniture Recalled Due to Excess Lead in Metal Parts
Health Canada announced a recall on August 25, 2025, for Lars brand dining furniture due to lead levels in the black coatings of certain metal parts that exceed the allowable limit. The recall applies to Lars Counter Chair, Lars Counter Wood Top and Metal Base, Lars Tabletop Center Glass Insert, and Lars Counter Table, which were sold individually or as part of five or seven-piece sets at The Brick stores in Canada between June 2023 and July 2025.
Exposure to lead, especially for children, is toxic and can result in serious health problems. According to Health Canada, lead exposure can cause anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, brain injury, convulsions, coma, and, in some cases, death. Lead can also affect the liver, kidneys, heart, and immune system. The substance accumulates in the body with ongoing, even small, exposures.
Health Canada determined through testing that the black coatings on the legs and metal base of the Lars Counter Wood Top table and Lars Counter Chairs contain lead above the limit set by the Surface Coatings Materials Regulations. The products were manufactured in China by Ryan (Tianjin) International Trading Co., Ltd., and distributed by The Brick, based in Edmonton, Alberta. The company reported that 17,472 units were sold in Canada.
As of August 15, 2025, The Brick has reported no incidents or injuries associated with these products in Canada.
Health Canada directs consumers to stop using the recalled furniture immediately. Recalled items cannot be resold, redistributed, or given away according to the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Health Canada encourages consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to these products through the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
