Left lane closed on Thornton Road North near Rossland Road West in Oshawa due to watermain valve leak, Durham Region says
A left lane on Thornton Road North just north of Rossland Road West in Oshawa is closed because of a watermain drain valve leak, Durham Region says. The Region says the restrictions will stay in place while it schedules repairs, with work expected later this month, and the lane closure also expected to remain until ongoing work at the Oshawa Water Supply Plant is finished later in March.
The closure affects traffic through the Thornton Road North and Rossland Road West intersection. Durham Region says the repair requires a full shutdown of the watermain, but doing that during the work at the Oshawa Water Supply Plant would “significantly impact” water service and water pressure for local residences and businesses.
Durham Region says the drain valve leak is allowing water to run onto Thornton Road North.
The Region says fixing the drain valve requires shutting down the watermain. It says it is postponing that shutdown during the scheduled work at the Oshawa Water Supply Plant because of the expected impact on local water service and pressure.
Durham Region says lane restrictions will remain until the drain valve repairs are finished, and that the work is expected to be completed later this month. The Region says unfavourable conditions could affect the schedule.
The Region also says the lane restrictions are expected to remain in place until the Oshawa Water Supply Plant work is complete later in March, when it will provide an updated estimate for the drain valve repair timeline.
For drivers, Durham Region says eastbound traffic on Rossland Road West turning left onto Thornton Road North will need to turn into the curb lane.
Durham Region asked drivers to use caution near the work zone for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
