Man Arrested After Child Luring Investigation by Durham Police
A 30-year-old man was arrested on July 11 by members of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) after an investigation into alleged child luring. Police said the investigation began in late February when ICE officers examined online communications between an adult male and a 14-year-old girl.
DRPS has expressed concern that there could be additional victims and requested that anyone with relevant information contact the ICE unit. According to police, the man operated under the usernames “Nyke” on Discord and “sir.campos” on Snapchat.
Police reported that the man allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to the girl and arranged to meet her in person. The suspect has been identified by DRPS as Brian Campos Bolanos, 30, of Cambridge. He has been charged with the following offences:
- Luring a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of facilitating the commission of sexual assault
- Luring a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of facilitating the commission of sexual interference
- Luring a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of facilitating the commission of invitation to sexual touching
- Luring a person under the age of 18 for the purpose of facilitating the commission of making child pornography
Police stated that Campos Bolanos was held for a bail hearing. DRPS acknowledged support from the Canadian National and Ontario Provincial Strategies to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet, and noted that the project was funded by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Police reiterated their call for anyone with information about this or similar incidents to contact them. The allegations against Campos Bolanos have not been proven in court.
