Marigold Hospice Care opens as Clarington’s first residential hospice

Marigold Hospice Care has opened as Clarington’s first residential hospice. The municipality donated the land, offset fees, and provided $1.25 million to start construction.

The facility will provide residential end-of-life care for local residents and their families. The opening places hospice care within the municipality, reducing the need to travel outside the community for this service.

In a statement marking the official opening, Mayor Adrian Foster called the occasion a milestone for local health services. He thanked community supporters and recognized the Marigold Hospice Care board and staff for their role in advancing the project.

Foster presented the Clarington Mayor’s Challenge Coin to Board Chair Melodie Zarzeczny at the event, citing her leadership over the past 10 years in bringing the hospice to completion. He said the recognition marked the significance of the day and acknowledged her efforts in establishing end-of-life care in Clarington.

A municipal photo from the opening shows Regional Councillor (Wards 1 and 2) Granville Anderson, Ward 2 Councillor Lloyd Rang, Board Chair Melodie Zarzeczny, and Mayor Adrian Foster in attendance.

According to the municipality, Mayor’s Challenge Coin recipients include residents from a range of backgrounds—such as volunteers, fundraisers, organizers, educators and advocates—who have made contributions to the community.
