Mayor Adrian Foster marks start of Ramadan in Feb. 18 statement
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster released a statement Feb. 18 marking the start of Ramadan and offering greetings to Muslim residents.
The message is part of the municipality’s public communications tied to community and religious observances, and it outlines how the month is observed by many local residents.
In the statement posted on the Municipality of Clarington website, Foster wrote, “Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim community. On behalf of Clarington Council, I’d like to wish all those who are observing a peaceful, blessed month.”
Foster said Ramadan began the night before and noted that, for many people in Clarington, the month includes “devoted prayer and fasting from sunrise to sunset.”
He also called Ramadan “a chance for all of us to reflect on important values, like compassion, gratitude, and generosity.”
Foster ended the statement by citing Clarington’s “commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.”
