Mayor calls park graffiti ‘hateful’ as Durham police investigate in Clarington

Durham Regional Police Service is investigating graffiti Mayor Adrian Foster described as “hateful” at a Clarington park, and municipal staff have removed it, Foster said in a statement dated Aug. 5.

Foster did not identify the park, when the graffiti was found, or what it said. The statement did not name any suspects or mention potential charges.

Foster said the graffiti used “violent and bigoted language” and was written at a public park “where children gather and play.” He issued the statement on behalf of Clarington Council.

Foster said residents reported the graffiti and that municipal staff removed it.

Durham Regional Police Service is investigating, Foster said, calling it a “serious incident.”
