Mayor issues Lunar New Year statement on Clarington website

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster issued a Lunar New Year statement on the Municipality of Clarington website on Feb. 17, 2026, extending greetings “on behalf of Clarington Council” to residents marking the Year of the Horse.

The statement was posted in the municipality’s “Community News” section and included a description of Lunar New Year, also referred to as “Chinese New Year,” along with comments on what the Year of the Horse represents.

In the statement, Foster said the Horse stands for “adventure, vitality, and momentum,” and that it encourages “renewed strength and motivation.”

Foster wrote that Lunar New Year “is a chance to recognize and celebrate the diverse traditions that make Clarington a stronger, more connected community.”

He closed by wishing those observing “a joyful festival” and added that he hopes the Year of the Horse will “inspire us all to embrace new opportunities and move forward with excitement.”
