More than 400 students compete in FIRST LEGO League Ontario provincials at Durham College in Oshawa
More than 400 students in Grades 4 to 8 took part in the 2026 FIRST LEGO League Ontario Provincial Championship this past weekend at Durham College’s Oshawa campus.
The provincial event brought families, coaches and educators from across Ontario to the campus for a day of student robotics and project presentations, part of a program that introduces younger students to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities.
Teams competed using LEGO robots in robot challenges and delivered project presentations.
This year’s challenge, called UNEARTHED, was archaeology-inspired and asked participants to explore how discovery shapes understanding of ourselves and our communities. The challenge also focused on developing solutions to challenges faced by archaeologists today, according to information posted by Durham College.
Over the weekend, teams designed, built, tested and refined their LEGO robots and prepared their project presentations.
In the final results, the Solvers of X & Y team from Aurora won the Science Division championship, and the ConnecTech team from North York won the Technology Division.
Durham College will also host the 2026 FIRST Robotics Competition March 13 to 15 at its Oshawa campus. The theme for that competition is REBUILT, and participating teams will design, build and program industrial-sized robots, according to the college’s announcement.
