Ontario extends One Fare two years; single-fare transfers continue on DRT, GO and TTC
Ontario is extending its One Fare program for two more years, keeping single-fare transfers across the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), GO Transit and local systems including Durham Region Transit. The extension was detailed in a provincial notice issued Dec. 1.
For Clarington riders who use Durham Region Transit and connect with GO buses or trains or the TTC, the extension keeps pay-once transfers in place across those systems.
One Fare lets riders pay a single fare when transferring between the TTC and GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, MiWay, Peel TransHelp and York Region Transit.
Riders can pay with a physical or digital PRESTO card, or with a debit or credit card. They must tap on and off with the same card for the full trip, according to the province.
Transfers are valid for two hours when a trip starts on local transit systems such as Durham Region Transit and for three hours when a trip starts on GO Transit.
The program launched in 2024 across participating agencies in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Since launch, the province says it has enabled nearly 62 million free transfers and resulted in nearly $200 million in rider savings.
The Ministry of Transportation says some commuters could save up to $1,600 annually under the program.
Eligible transfers include trips between the TTC and the listed local agencies and between local systems and GO Transit, provided riders follow the tap rules described above.
The two-year extension continues the elimination of double fares on eligible transfers across the participating agencies.
