Ontario Government Issues Advisory on Motorcycle Safety for Spring Riding Season

The Ontario government has issued a seasonal reminder to all road users to prioritize motorcycle safety as riding increases with warmer weather. According to the government's statement, both motorists and motorcyclists are urged to be vigilant while sharing the road.

The announcement states that motorcycle riders face a higher risk of serious injury in collisions compared to occupants of other vehicles. The government cited speed, loss of control, and driver inattention as primary factors contributing to motorcycle crashes.

The Ontario government recommends that motorcycle riders wear approved helmets, gloves, jackets, pants, and boots. The statement also encourages riders to complete a safety course and to make themselves visible to other drivers. For motorists, the government advises checking mirrors and blind spots carefully, especially before turns and lane changes, and to yield to motorcycles when turning left at intersections.
