Ontario Tech appoints Laura Money as Board of Governors chair; four new governors named for 2026–2027

Ontario Tech University in Oshawa has appointed Sun Life executive Laura Money as chair of its Board of Governors, effective Sept. 1. The university also named four new governors whose terms are set to begin in the 2026–2027 academic year.

The Board of Governors provides strategic oversight, governance and stewardship for the university, according to Ontario Tech.

Money is executive vice-president and chief information and technology innovation officer at Sun Life. Ontario Tech said she brings more than 30 years of experience in technology, innovation, digital transformation, governance and strategic leadership.

The Women’s Executive Network recently named Money one of its 2026 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 honourees in the AI and Technology category.

Money joined Ontario Tech’s Board of Governors in September 2024 and served as vice-chair of the board’s Audit & Finance Committee during the 2025–2026 academic year. She succeeds Laura Elliott as chair.

Ontario Tech said two of the incoming governors are external governors: Nicole McNeill, president and chief administrative officer of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, and Serge Gattesco, a retired partner of PwC Canada.

The university also listed two internal elected governors who will begin terms in 2026–2027: Dr. Peter Lewis as elected teaching staff governor and Sameer Qureshi as elected student governor.

Lewis is Canada Research Chair in Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence and director of Ontario Tech’s Mindful AI Research Institute. Qureshi is a third-year software engineering student.

Ontario Tech said the board’s work supports the university’s mission, long-term sustainability and strategic priorities.
