Ontario Tech breaks ground on The Ridge residence, planned to open in fall 2027

Ontario Tech University held a groundbreaking on Feb. 2, 2026, for a new on-campus student residence in north Oshawa called The Ridge, which the university plans to open in fall 2027.

The project would add more student housing on campus at a time when housing availability has been a growing concern in many communities, including for post-secondary students. Ontario Tech says the residence plan aligns with its growth target of 20,000 learners.

The residence is planned for a site just north of the Campus Ice Centre along a natural watercourse.

Ontario Tech plans to open the development in stages, beginning with 450 beds in the first phase. The university’s long-term plan is for the residence to accommodate about 2,000 students.

Ontario Tech plans to lease campus land for the development.

A consortium led by Campus Suites and Woodbourne is set to build the residence. Campus Living Centres will manage operations.

In a university statement, vice-president of administration Brad MacIsaac said the residence is meant to support enrolment growth and student housing demand.

Ontario Tech did not disclose a project cost, room types or pricing, or a construction timeline beyond the planned fall 2027 opening.
